Jalen Williams being shut down with yet another hamstring injury mid-way through Wednesday's Game 2 win over the Suns is far from a positive for the OKC Thunder.

However, in an odd sense, perhaps the fact that they've dealt with this same ailment on multiple occasions throughout the regular season may be.

At least, that's how Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is choosing to see the situation.

While he started off his post-game, on-court interview by stressing how "unfortunate" it was to have someone of J-Dub's caliber go down, the superstar noted that "we had guys coming in and out of the lineup all year" due to myriad injuries and that "we played with so many lineups that it seemed pretty seamless" when forced to wrap up the second half without his co-star in the fold.

Despite his shelving, the Thunder were still able to secure a 120-107 win over Phoenix and take a 2-0 lead in this best-of-seven quarterfinal matchup.

Thunder have managed to overcome Jalen Williams' absences this year

As every Thunder fan is presumably already aware, Williams being sidelined with a hamstring injury is sadly nothing new for the team this year.

As a direct result of two right hammy strain flare-ups, the All-Star was forced to the sidelines in 30 total games in 2025-26.

Fortunately, with these absences, a number of players proved more than willing and able to step up for the fallen forward.

From Isaiah Joe excelling while taking on a larger chunk of scoring duties to Ajay Mitchell quietly becoming an elite two-way running mate alongside Gilgeous-Alexander, Oklahoma City clearly has the talent necessary to effectively make up for Williams' absence should he miss time moving forward.

On the bright side -- at least, if there is one to be had--, this particular hamstring injury does not appear to be a re-aggravation of his previous strains, for early reports indicate this is the left hamstring that's now bothering him.

While SGA made sure to stress that the Thunder will need Williams back out on the hardwood this postseason "to reach the mountaintop" and, in turn, become the first repeat champion since the 2018 Warriors, it's worth noting that they went 39-10 this year with the 25 sidelined due to hamstring and wrist issues.

In the event that Dub is forced to sit out a few of the club's upcoming games, based on the evidence at hand, OKC fans should feel confident in this team's ability to stay afloat until his return.
