Already this summer, there have been a number of former OKC Thunder studs migrating to clubs that serve as direct threats to their repeat hopes in 2025-26.

From Kevin Durant heading to the Houston Rockets to Chris Paul reuniting with the LA Clippers, several past Oklahoma City cornerstones are in line to help try and continue the streak of new teams being crowned kings of the league for the eighth consecutive year.

Now, based on recent rumblings by NBA insider Marc Stein, another ex-Thunder seems destined to hop aboard the roster of a frightening conference foe, as Al Horford is expected to sign with the Golden State Warriors at some point in the near future.

Former Thunder Al Horford destined to sign with Warriors

Per the insider, the big man's arrival in the Bay Area is believed to be nearly a sure thing. However, according to ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel, no signings can be made league official until the Warriors figure out a plan for estranged young forward Jonathan Kuminga.

Though Horford's best known for his highly successful stints with both the Atlanta Hawks and Boston Celtics, the latter of which he played a key role in the franchise winning their 18 NBA Championship in 2024, for a brief period back in the 2020-21 season the veteran served as a prominent, on-court producer for the Thunder.

After being acquired in the offseason salary dump exchange with the Philadelphia 76ers that netted the organization a 2025 first-round pick (now a 2026 first-rounder after not conveying), Horford found himself dropping impressive per-game averages of 14.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 3.4 assists while shooting 45.0 percent from the floor and 36.8 percent from distance.

The big man proved so productive, in fact, that mid-way through the year coach Mark Daigneault actually shut him down altogether to help benefit the team's tankathon run that helped them land the sixth overall selection in that year's draft.

Coming on five years being removed from his Sooner State tenure, though Horford may have slowed down a bit in his older age, the 39-year-old still clearly has what it takes to provide quality minutes within a contending team's frontcourt rotation, as he is coming off a 2024-25 season with the Celtics where he averaged 9.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists on 36.3 percent shooting from distance.

Earlier this offseason, there was even an argument to be made that the Thunder should consider a reunion of their own with the vet.

Now, after nearly a month of residing on the free agency market, it appears his services will be breezing right past Oklahoma City and out to San Francisco to join forces with Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, Draymond Green, and the top-10 title-odd Warriors for the upcoming season.
