OKC Thunder vs. Boston Celtics, January 5

The Boston Celtics stormed through the 2024 NBA Playoffs and easily captured their first title since Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Rajon Rondo led the charge in 2007-08.

They managed to have every rotation player return this offseason and are the current gold standard in the association. Whether it’s perimeter shooting, self-creation, point-of-attack defense, rim protection, or general versatility, Boston remains a hyper-elite team.

Kristaps Porzingis is one of the premier stretch bigs in the league, which presents wrinkles that most teams do not possess. Isaiah Hartenstein’s ability to defend in space versus Boston’s five-out offensive scheme will be a huge story to monitor.

A two-big lineup with Chet Holmgren marking Jayson Tatum is another idea that the Thunder should look to explore in this contest.

This early January matchup is an ideal chance for OKC to test themselves against the championship favorites and likely NBA Finals opponent.

The event also occurs after a tough four-game stretch against the Grizzlies, Timberwolves, Clippers, and Knicks. If Oklahoma City is able to cap this period off with a convincing win against Boston, then the Thunder will without question be entering the new year with a spring in their step.
