Thunder NBA Cup: Power ranking each West Group B team
1. Oklahoma City Thunder
Oklahoma City is coming off one of their best seasons in franchise history, and there's certainly an argument to be made that they got better this summer. The Thunder said goodbye to former lottery pick Josh Giddey, to cash in and get a win-now piece in Alex Caruso.
They followed this up by signing free agent big man Isaiah Hartenstein, solidifying the roster as one of the most well-rounded in the entire association.
Their ultimate goal may not necessarily be to just win the NBA Cup in 2024-25, but there's still certainly some incentive behind accomplishing such a feat.
Despite being extremely high-level impact players, Chet Holmgren, Jalen Williams and Cason Wallace are all still on their rookie deals, so some extra money might be enough motivation to strive for the NBA Cup, which rewards each player on the winning team with $500,000.
But going back to the roster, it's hard to find holes in the Thunder's rotation, as it legitimately goes 10 men deep, and even that may be selling things a bit short.
Adding to this, the Thunder addressed their biggest weaknesses this offseason in frontcourt size with the signing of Hartenstein. Expect the Thunder to be one of the best shooting teams in basketball again, as the departure of Giddey and the replacement with Caruso opens up the floor for more shooting and drives to the rim.
With one of the deepest lineups in the league, a young, hungry roster and the need to make a statement, the Oklahoma City Thunder are definitely the strongest and favorite to top Group B.
OKC matches up very well against most of the teams in the group and should see themselves through comfortably if they stick to what worked for them last season while securing more rebounds and hitting threes at a higher rate.
