3 Thunder players to monitor during 2024 NBA Summer League
By Mark Nilon
Thunder Player No. 1) Ousmane Dieng
Without question, the most noteworthy participant heading into this year's Summer League is third-year forward, Ousmane Dieng.
Selected 11 overall during the 2022 NBA Draft, the 21-year-old has seen sporadic stints with the varsity team throughout his NBA tenure and has spent the vast majority of his time logging minutes with the club's G League affiliate, the OKC Blue.
Serving as a main catalyst in the Blue's 2024 G League Championship run, this past season Dieng posted impressive averages of 16.7 points, 7.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and just shy of a block.
Unfortunately, as of this writing, he has yet to see these types of efforts translate to the next level when suiting up with the Thunder, as he has registered mere averages of 4.5 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.2 steals in a total of 72 outings with the franchise.
With his established and consistent struggles in virtually all aspects of the game when suiting up in the NBA, there have now been many calls for Oklahoma City to cut their losses and try to sell high on his "recent lottery pick" status as well as his newly established G League Finals MVP moniker.
Be it to better his odds of entering the season as an official member of Mark Daigneault's rotation or to up his value on the trade market, there's a strong argument to be made that this year's Summer League may be the most important period in Ousmane Dieng playing career to date.
Heading into year three, it's put up or shut up time for the highly-touted French-born talent.
