3 Players not named Lauri Markkanen Thunder must trade for
By Mark Nilon
Dorian Finney-Smith
Should the Thunder wish to go after an offensive-oriented, long-range shooting option at the power forward position, then Cam Johnson realistically could prove to be a solid target on the trade market.
However, should they be more interested in adding on a player who, though boasts serviceable scoring talent, is more known as a brute-force, defensive-minded contributor, then perhaps his own Nets cohort, Dorian Finney-Smith might just be the player to turn their attention toward.
A player we at TI have tabbed as being someone the Thunder likely wish they pursued at this past campaign's trade deadline rather than Gordon Hayward, the eighth-year veteran has made a career for himself being a tough-nosed player who can cover a wide range of players defensively and can step up on the offensive side of the ball when needed.
This past season, Finney-Smith yet again saw solid per-game averages of 8.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.6 assists while shooting roughly 35 percent from beyond the arc.
Essentially, he's a proven, tried and true, rock-solid player that any title-contending team could use, though, unfortunately, Brooklyn has understood this since acquiring him mid-way through 2022-23, which is why they've crafted such a lucrative price tag for his services on the trade market.
Of course, with the Nets' recent decision to trade their star centerpiece Mikal Bridges, one could likely infer that they could now look to reset their entire identity and start planning for the future, which would certainly leave the win-now 31-year-old as being the odd man out on the roster.
With this, assuming their asking price has gone down from the initially reported several first-round picks, without question Finney-Smith would be worth the Thunder taking a swing on.
