Thunder GM Sam Presti enters legendary conversation
By Mark Nilon
Since signing on to serve as General Manager for the OKC Thunder back in June of 2007 (then the Seattle Supersonics), Sam Presti has managed to establish himself as one of the game's all-time best executives.
From strategic free agency signings to top-flight trades, on numerous occasions throughout his 17 year tenure with the organization the GM has snatched up loads of quality talents who would go on to have sensational careers in the association.
Presti's expertise has been so sensational, in fact, that he finds himself tied for fourth on the list of most All-NBA players drafted by executives throughout league history, with the magic number being four.
Thunder GM Sam Presti has drafted 4 All-NBA players in his career
The Thunder's head honcho has accomplished such a feat through 18 total NBA Drafts, with the players making up this total consisting of Kevin Durant (11x), Russell Westbrook (9x), James Harden (7x), and Domantas Sabonis (2x).
Now, though half of these players (Harden and Sabonis) saw their illustrious nods be claimed following their departures from OKC, it's still rather indicative of just how good of an analyzer of talent Presti is.
What's more impressive is the fact that of all 26 executives mentioned on the HoopsHype list, Presti is one of only three that are currently active, with San Antonio's Gregg Popovich (3x) and Utah's Danny Ainge (4x) rounding out the other two spots.
On top of all this, it's incredibly realistic that by the time his career comes to a close, the Thunder GM will have even more names added to his impressive collection.
Already in tow on the roster are two players in Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren who, following tremendous 2023-24 showings, have many believing that they will take that next step toward All-NBA status in the near future.
However, even if his total number of All-NBA players drafted stays at four with 29 overall selections, it still finds Sam Presti included on an incredibly prestigious list with several legendary executives.
That said, with Chet, J-Dub, and a truckload of future first-round picks already in his possession, one should only expect to see him move up on these all-time ranks.
