The OKC Thunder find themselves approaching the 2024-25 NBA season with serious momentum on their side.

After becoming the youngest team in league history to clinch a top seed in a conference standings and winning their first playoff series in nearly a decade, this dangerous Oklahoma City squad managed to get even better throughout the offseason thanks to the wheeling and dealing ways of Sam Presti.

With the signing of Isaiah Hartenstein on the second day of free agency and the late-June trade for Alex Caruso from the Chicago Bulls, the Thunder have seemingly addressed two of their most glaring weaknesses from last season in frontcourt size and backcourt shooting and, in turn, strengthened their rotation tenfold.

Now, the franchise and its loyal followers are champing at the bit as they await their first opportunity to unleash their shiny new weapons against opposing teams on the hardwood. With the NBA's recent announcement of every team's regular season schedule, OKC will be able to do so on October 24 with a date with the Denver Nuggets.

From there, they'll have a full 82-game slate to get through as they look to set themselves up for ultimate glory, and, along the way, there are several noteworthy dates Thunder fans should have marked on their calendars.

Key dates on 2024-25 NBA Schedule Thunder fans must be aware of

Revenge game vs. Luka, Mavericks

November 17, 2024

Following their electrifying semifinal matchup that, ultimately, saw OKC get bounced in six games, Thunder fans have been waiting for word on when their beloved team will get another crack at taking on the Dallas Mavericks.

Luckily, the wait for such an event won't take all that long, as the league has slotted them in for a must-watch showdown in mid-November.

While their demise against Dallas was certainly unfortunate and upsetting to see, one could easily spin it in a positive light, for it specifically highlighted their need for more size on the front lines, as the likes of Daniel Gafford and Dereck Lively II absolutely manhandled Chet Holmgren and company in the post and on the glass, which, in turn, played a major role in them winning the series.

If not for this, perhaps Oklahoma City wouldn't have prioritized bringing on extra big bodies this summer and, in turn, may have missed out on landing arguably this offseason's most highly touted free agent big in Hartenstein.

Now revamped and ready to go, Thunder fans should be counting down the days till this exhilarating contest comes underway.

The Williams brothers square off for the first time

December 3, 2024

Currently, there are 14 different sets of brothers active in the association. Jalen and Cody Williams have officially become one of the newest members of this list with the latter's addition to the Utah Jazz as the 10 overall pick in June's NBA Draft.

It's always fun to see relatives duke it out against one another, especially on the biggest and best stage the world has to offer as far as the sport of basketball is concerned.

Considering just how close they are, it goes without question that the two are excited for December 3 to finally arrive, and so, too, should the fans.

Another Kevin Durant showdown in OKC

November 15, 2024

We may be approaching nine years since he last suited up as a member of the Thunder, but even with all this time that passed fans seemingly never grow tired of seeing Kevin Durant make his return to Oklahoma City.

Since his departure back in 2016, the forward has squared off against his former employers on 17 separate occasions and has gone 8-7 in such bouts.

What interesting about their numerous face-offs, however, is the fact that, of late, Durant has seemed to slip a bit in the success department.

OKC has gone undefeated in all three of their most recent games played against KD and, since November 21, 2018, they boast a 5-2 record.

If their last outing against their former cornerstone showed us anything, it's that this Suns team is far from impenetrable (the Thunder won by 25 points even without Shai Gilgeous-Alexander active).

On November 15, expect the franchise to tie up the series at eight games apiece.

Josh Giddey's return to Oklahoma City

March 31, 2025

Easily the most noteworthy player who departed this offseason was Josh Giddey, as his services were used in the highly celebrated trade swap between him and Alex Caruso.

Though the move has been tabbed by many as a major win for the Thunder, this is not to say that Giddey was a mere afterthought player.

A former sixth-overall pick who measures in as a modern-day wing yet boasts a style of play more akin to a backcourt floor general, the 21-year-old heads out to the Chicago Bulls with an opportunity to not only serve as the unquestioned lead guard of a lineup for the first time in his career but, also, to prove his worth to the masses in the final year of his rookie-scale deal as he hopes to land a lucrative pay-day come next summer.

Giddey is likely coming into 2024-25 with a desire to show out and prove his worth as a legitimate franchise point guard, and this mentality is only expected to amp up when playing against the team that ultimately gave up on him this summer.
