SGA becomes first player to hit 2,000 points this season

In another 31-point performance, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander became the first player this season to reach the 2000-point mark, comfortably leading the scoring race this season.

Gilgeous-Alexander was cooking throughout the game, putting defenders on an island, with the only escapes being him fishing a foul or letting him put the ball inside the basket.

The Mavericks had no answer for SGA.

They tried Derrick Jones Jr., but he was too lanky to guard Gilgeous-Alexander on the perimeter. They tried Tim Hardaway Jr., and he overwhelmed him with his finesse. The Mavs tried PJ Washington, who had an atrocious 1-of-11 shooting in the game, and the Thunder superstar proved his foot speed was too much for him to contain.

Simply put, Dallas’ defenders had no match for SGA as he only attempted 16 shots and shot in the free-throw line 15 times.

After the game, Gilgeous-Alexander now stands at 2,021 points this season, ahead of the Mavericks’ Doncic, who would have beaten the Thunder guard to the feat if not for his hamstring injury, as he is at 1,991 points so far.

Gilgeous-Alexander also extends the OKC Thunder's record for most 30-point games this season to 49, following his record-breaking 30-point performance in a defeat to the Pacers, which broke Kevin Durant's mark of 47.
