3 takeaways from first-round series between Thunder and Pelicans
Josh Giddey has been tremendous
Coming into the playoffs, the perception of Josh Giddey was polarizing. Some see him as the weakest link within this Thunder rotation. Others view him as a valuable commodity in the team’s offense, being the best passer in lineups and a great release valve on offensive plays.
After scoring only two points in the series opener, the Aussie guard proved his worth in the next three games, averaging 16 points on about 56 percent shooting from the field.
As a whole, Giddey averaged 12.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in the four games against New Orleans.
He was particularly pivotal in the closeout game as he dropped nine fourth-quarter points, all from distance, to contribute 14 points in Game 4 and turn the tides for the Thunder down the stretch.
Giddey has made himself a dangerous player in the playoffs so far. While there were some defensive lapses throughout the series, the former sixth-overall pick has always come ready to impact the game in the best way possible.
If this fine play continues to the next round, Giddey could be the X-factor that can define the Thunder’s chances against any team in the playoffs.
For now, the Giddey believers and truthers have been enjoying what they’re seeing.
