3. Davis Bertans

The Thunder wanted to trade up to draft Carson Wallace in 2023 and found a partner in the Mavericks. Moving up two spots meant taking on Bertans’ contract, but it was a small price to pay for a roster loaded with young talent.

The 6’10 forward appeared in 15 games with Oklahoma City and played a total of 91 minutes before being traded to Charlotte at the deadline. Bertans was a crucial matching salary in the Gordon Hayward trade. The entire deal was a disaster for the Thunder, and Charlotte made Bertans a free agent after the season.

The 31-year-old is an elite 3-point shooter but offers little else. He has made 39.6 percent of his 2,234 career attempts from long-range over eight NBA seasons. Bertans can connect from well beyond the line, but struggles on defense and cannot put the ball on the floor.

Davis Bertans may have to head back overseas to finish his career. He played his first five professional seasons in Europe, and the Latvian Laser is even more dangerous with the shorter 3-point line.

He would love to find another NBA opportunity, but so far nothing has become available. Bertans is still searching, and fans should expect to see him on the floor somewhere in the 2024-25 season.
