4 Former Thunder that are still available on the free agent market
By Tyler Watts
1. Bismack Biyombo
The veteran big man has played for six different franchises during his 13 years in the NBA. Biyombo has mostly been a reserve option capable of protecting the rim, crashing the glass, and finishing inside. There is nothing flashy about his game.
It appeared he might not play last season. The Grizzlies signed him after the regular season started to help replace Steven Adams. It was a lost season in Memphis, which allowed Biyombo to average 5.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.1 blocks in 23.9 minutes per game. As the Grizzlies slipped from contention, they decided to move on.
Oklahoma City needed rebounding and size inside, so they signed Bismack Biyombo. The veteran appeared in just ten games and got 73 total regular season minutes. He did not get on the floor in the playoffs and it was clearly not a fit.
The 31-year-old still has gas in the tank, but no team has been eager to sign him. Will he find a home before training camp? Biyombo may have to settle for being a mid-season signing for the second straight year.
The Oklahoma City Thunder are better off keeping their final roster open over adding any of these former players. There are reasons behind things not working out and Sam Presti should be focused on maximizing the franchise’s talent over bringing back someone who formally played in OKC.
