5 Oklahoma City Thunder at risk of being traded this summer
By Tyler Watts
1. Josh Giddey
Giddey is the most likely member of the Thunder’s young core to be traded this summer. The 21-year-old has immense potential, but his playing time and production are down. Oklahoma City has multiple ball-handlers and playmakers on their roster. Giddey needs the ball to be at his best, and his time with it is diminishing as the Thunder improve.
Giddey averaged 16.6 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 6.2 assists in 31.1 minutes per game in 2023. He shot 48.2 percent from the field and was trending up. The 21-year-old is still far from his prime but is playing just 24.4 minutes per game this season. His lack of shooting makes it tough to play him next to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. The Thunder are still trying to figure out how to maximize his value, and a trade might be the answer.
Expect Oklahoma City to explore the market for Giddey this summer. He was the sixth overall pick in 2021 and has shown immense upside. Several teams will be interested, and Giddey could be a key piece of a trade that nets the Thunder a star and pushes them into an inner-circle title contender.
The Oklahoma City Thunder have the assets to make any move, but how does Sam Presti play it? They will be one of the most intriguing teams this summer, so stay tuned.
