Thunder's season now depends on SGA doing exact opposite of Game 6 meltdown

The Oklahoma City Thunder need Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to be an elite shot-maker if they want to win Game 7.

The Oklahoma City Thunder just dropped Game 6 against the San Antonio Spurs, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander really struggled. He just couldn’t generate a rhythm. And now, the Thunder’s entire season depends on him doing the exact opposite. OKC needs prime SGA. They need the best version of him in Game 7, not whoever showed up in San Antonio on Thursday night.

Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs completely locked down SGA and the Thunder on Thursday. It was a defensive Master Class by the Spurs, and now, OKC needs to regroup and get ready to play for their season. And there’s only one man the Thunder should want leading the charge: SGA.

He needs to dominate Game 7 if the Thunder wants to make the NBA Finals.

Thunder need SGA to score much better in Game 7

Everything that went wrong for SGA in Game 6 is seemingly the opposite of who SGA is as a player. He’s usually the guy OKC can rely on to take and make tough shots when they need a reliable source of offense.

But on Thursday night, with a chance to go to the Finals on the line, SGA struggled. He couldn’t hit shots. He couldn’t find a rhythm. He looked nothing like the two-time MVP who helped lead the Thunder to a title last year.

Now, that’s not to say SGA can’t be that for the Thunder in Game 7. Time and time again, he’s proven that he’s fully capable of bouncing back from a rough game.

And now, more than ever, the Thunder need him to do just that. Because not only did SGA struggle to score in Game 6, but the Thunder got absolutely destroyed when he was on the court.

His lack of scoring abilities really hurt OKC in Game 6, and he didn’t have the same role-player support from guys like Jared McCain and Jaylin Williams that he did earlier in the series. At least, not at the same level.

Now, it’s all about SGA. It has to be all about SGA. He needs to find a way to score the ball at a high level. At the level that has led to him winning back-to-back MVP awards.

The Thunder can’t depend on McCain. They can’t depend on Williams. They can’t depend on Chet Holmgren or the injured Jalen Williams. They need SGA.

He needs to bounce back. Effectively, in Game 7, SGA needs to do the exact opposite of what he did in Game 6.
