Coming to terms with the likely reality that the OKC Thunder will play the Golden State Warriors in the first round of the playoffs.

How do these things typically go, OKC Thunder fans?

Get yourself believing for long enough that it won’t turn out like it usually does. Pretend that everything is going exactly how you want it. Everything looks fine. Nothing can go wrong. We got this. Now, imagine the worst case scenario. Things are about to go from 100 to 0 real quick. All the good vibes you had in your brain are replaced with a throbbing headache.

Two weeks ago, everything was going exactly how I wanted it. The Golden State Warriors were rolling and the one seed was easily theirs. The Oklahoma City Thunder were rolling and there was no way they would fall back to the eight seed. Maybe they meet in the second round if OKC was to pull an upset, but at least for two weeks, we would avoid that annoying team from California. Not the Clippers.

Then, that knee injury happens. The Warriors go into a slump. It’s possible they fall back to the second seed. The Thunder lose four straight to non-playoff teams. It looked like they could challenge for the four seed. Now, they battle with the Grizzlies for sixth.

The Warriors slump will push them down to the two-seed. And those four games against non-playoff teams will set a four-game date with the eventual NBA champions.

The worst case scenario for the Oklahoma City Thunder in the playoffs is having to deal with the Warriors in round one. Having to somehow not break everything in your house while watching Draymond Green for four more games. Dealing with Steph Curry’s showboating for four more games. Seeing Klay Thompson make every shot for four more games. And, that other guy.

That other guy, who is hurt right now, but will be back to 100 percent if the Warriors meet the Thunder in round one. Maybe he’ll only be 60 percent for one game, which will be the game the Thunder wins, but he’ll be 100 percent for at least four games.

More from Thunderous Intentions

At least four games of media telling us how to act. Of poorly written ESPN articles posing as “news” but is really Warriors propaganda. Four games of Brother yelling on social media, of Mama wondering why we’re so upset and of uncompetitive basketball. Because one team has four all-stars and the other, despite all of their improvements in the last five games, simply can’t compete with four all-stars.

Remember how annoying the Warriors and their fans were during the playoffs last year? Remember how annoying the Warriors and their fans were in the first three games of this season?

Now, combine the two. And double it.

That’s what we have to look forward to in April. It’s going to happen. That’s how it works as a Thunder fan.
