LAST SEASON’S RECORD VS. OPPONENT: 1-2

The Spurs are re-tooled and, once again, considered a major title contender next season. They’ve been counted out several times over the years – they’re too old, too boring, too consistent – but those concerns don’t necessarily apply.

In addition to the seemingly ageless core of Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili, they’ve added key new players (LaMarcus Aldridge and David West) while bringing back a key cog for their championship season two years ago (Danny Green).

This one has it all. Two rivals, both with the same goal in mind. Can Aldridge fit in with his new teammates as part of coach Gregg Popovich’s system? Will Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook be at their very best? How will new OKC coach Billy Donovan handle his first high-profile game in the NBA?

While a game like this has little actual significance this early in the season, it’s still as exciting a matchup as it could possibly be.
