Russell Westbrook – Part One

As stated earlier, Westbrook has 32 triple doubles on the season. I always take a moment to ponder just how lucky I am to have seen most of these games where a truly historic figure is dazzling me.

However, it is not just the triple-doubles that Westbrook is grabbing headlines over. He also is in pole position to win the scoring title. There is, however a good efficient number that Westbrook needs to strive for so that the OKC Thunder win.

50 point games

Westbrook has two fifty point games on the season, including a franchise record 58 points against Portland. Unfortunately, if Westbrook scores 50 points this does not guarantee a win for the Thunder. Against Portland, the Thunder lost by five points.

Add the typical Westbrook triple-double to the 50 points game and that is the recipe for a win.

40 point games

Westbrook has 12 games where he has scored 40 to 49 points  for the season. That is an incredible number but it only equates to a 6-6 record. Once again, add the triple-double and the record is a much nicer 3-1 record.

30 point games

Westbrook has 23 games here he has scored 30 to 39 points for the season. The OKC Thunder have a 15-8 record when Westbrook scores at this level.

This is the most efficient level for Westbrook to score when collecting a triple double. The OKC Thunder have an incredible 12-1 record when Westbrook has a triple-double and a 30 point game.

20 point games

Westbrook has 24 games where he has scored 20-29 points. This point spread means a 10-14 record for the OKC Thunder. Once you add the triple double numbers into that the Thunder record is 8-4.

10 point games

Now, this is a surprising number. When Russell Westbrook scores 10-19 points in a game the Thunder have a 4-1 record. I had to rub my eyes when I worked this statistic out. Then I looked a little deeper.

When Westbrook scores so little, he tends to be more creative for others. Of the four wins, three of them have seen Westbrook collecting a triple-double. When Westbrook scores below 19 points and the Thunder win, he averages 14.25 assists.
