Offseason:

One of the things that the Oklahoma City Thunder love about Sabonis is that he is a gym rat. During the season, Sabonis spent many of his off court hours in the gym to try to find improvement in his right hand (he’s a lefty) and his jump shot. Brett Dawson of News OK outlines Sabonis plans for the offseason.

Sabonis stated in his exit interview that he would participate in summer league basketball for the Thunder. His development is a key factor for Russ and company, and playing this summer will help him gain additional confidence.

Summer Homework:

Domas also stated in his exit interview he planned on going home (Lithuania) to attend his brothers wedding in the little time he will have this productive off-season. While there, he will be playing for Lithuania’s National team. This essentially means non-stop playing time for the up and coming big man, which is key for his future with the Thunder.

Arguably his priority this off season will be to get in the weight room. Even though Sabonis is fundamentally sound, he lacks size in the post.  As he manages to gain muscle it will serve to allow him perform better in the paint and on the boards. The faster this occurs the better as the potential for a Kanter trade would mean his role would increase sooner rather than later.

Expect the rookie to come into his sophomore year with a full head of steam.
