The 2017-18 iteration of the OKC Thunder possibly deepest ever
The Depth Chart:
Let’s assume the Thunder is finished for the offseason. Yes, they could potentially make another move like stretch Kyle Singler and sign someone else on a minimum deal, but that may not happen. So if opening night was tomorrow, the depth chart would look something like this.
Point Guards: Russell Westbrook, Raymond Felton, Semaj Christon
Shooting Guards: Andre Roberson, Alex Abrines
Small Forwards: Paul George, Doug McDermott, Kyle Singler, Terrance Ferguson, Josh Huestis
Power Forwards: Pattrick Patterson, Jerami Grant
Centers: Steven Adams, Enes Kanter, (Nick Collison/Dakari Johnson?)
It’s important to note that these players wont be specifically playing in the role they are listed as. Boston Celtics Head Coach Brad Stevens made an excellent point recently about the way positions are in the modern NBA. In an interview with the Associated Press, Stevens said, “I don’t have the five positions anymore… It may be as simple as three positions now, where you’re either a ball-handler, a wing or a big.”
Must Read: The Thunder are now one move away from contending
This isn’t just something Boston implies. Many teams, including the Thunder have adapted to this. Player like Roberson and George will play both wing positions. McDermott will be used as a small ball power forward. Patterson and Grant could also play both big man positions. This is going to be an incredibly versatile team where nearly every player can play at multiple positions.
