The Russell Westbrook Triple-Double Season:

Records Triple-Doubles against every team except:

  • Chicago Bulls
  • Portland Trail Blazers

The only team left to check off his all-time list is the Chicago Bulls.

Records first ever perfect triple double:

On March 22, 2017 Russell Westbrook recorded the first perfect triple-double, The victim was the Philadelphia 76ers where he scored 18 points on his six field goal attempts with no misses.  Additionally,  he added 11 rebounds and 14 assists.

Highest Scoring NBA Triple-Double in history:

On March 29, 2017 Westbrook scored the most points ever in a triple-double performance. Westbrook’s stat  line read 57 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists.

Notches 15 thirty point, 5 forty point and 3 fifty point triple-doubles in one season:

In the 2015-16 season of Westbrook’s 18 trip-dubs not one included 30 points. In his previous seasons he had six 30-point and three 40-point trip-dubs.

Second longest consecutive triple-double streak in NBA history:

Twice this season Westbrook had 7 consecutive triple-double scoring games this season.  7 consecutive games twice this season. The longest consecutive streak is held by Wilt Chamberlain with nine in-a-row. Further, he was one rebound (Grizzlies) and 2 assists (Suns) shy or getting two others.

13 of Westbrook’s Triple-Doubles came prior to the fourth quarter and 2 came before half time:

The teams Westbrook feasted on grabbing his triple-double under four quarters were the Atlanta Hawks, Detroit Pistons, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat, Milwaukee Bucks, New Orleans Pelicans, New York Knicks (twice), Philadelphia 76ers,  Toronto Raptors, and Utah Jazz, .Notably, he accomplished 2 triple-doubles (Heat/Clippers) in just  two quarters.

Produces 12 Triple-Doubles in 16 games:

From March 9 to April 9, 2017 Westbrook went recorded 12 triple-double games.

Moves ahead of Wilt Chamberlain on All-Time Triple-Double List:

His 79 career triple doubles ranks fourth all-time behind Robertson (181), Magic Johnson (138) and Jason Kidd (107).

Becomes second NBA player ever to average triple-double over entire season:

Tying a 55 year old record was a major accomplishment which may never be matched again. The game which he joined Oscar Robertson came on April 4, 2016 against the Milwaukee Bucks

Registers 42 triple-doubles in season to break Oscar Robertson’s record of 41:

The record was broke in spectacular fashion against the Denver Nuggets on April 9, 2017.  Adding suspense to the moment, Westbrook spearheaded a late fourth quarter double-digit come back and knocked the Nuggets out of the playoffs.
