December 28, 2016: Western Conference, player of the week
February 2017: Makes his sixth All-Star team and comes precariously close to a third consecutive All-Star MVP. Westbrook lost out in the final moments of the game to home town Pelicans player Anthony Davis.
February 2017: Western Conference, player of the month. Given his season, incredibly Westbrook won this monthly award just twice all season. In comparison, he won it three times in the 2015-16 season and twice in 2014-15.
April 10, 2017: Western Conference, player of the week
End of Season Awards and Achievements:
Named first team All-NBA (6th time making All-NBA team)
Awarded 2016-17 Most Valuable Player
ESPY Awards- Best Male Athlete of Year
Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Sports Awards – Clutch Player of the Year
Suffice to say, this past year has offered many magical moments and memories. Yet, arguably the most important achievement occurred on May 16th, when wife Nina gave birth to the couples first child Noah.
Russell Westbrook may never experience another individual season of such successes. I’d wager a guess his desire now is firmly focused on winning a championship. That accomplishment would supersede all his individual achievements, records and awards. Here’s hoping he gets to experience that goal.
