Welcome to OKC Thunder – In the news for Friday August 18, featuring topical daily news on your favorite team.

As the weekend begins OKC Thunder In the News column offer focuses on the most topical news about the Thunder. Today’s column features some Steven Adams news and his awareness of looking like a Game of Thrones character.

Donovan and Roberson to join Adams in New Zealand:

Steven Adams has been in the news frequently this offseason and this week is no different. Preparing for his annual basketball camp in New Zealand Adams has teammates (Andre Roberson) and coaches (Billy Donovan) joining in the action. Marc Hinton of Stuff provides information on Adams upcoming camps:

This should be fun. Steven Adams is bringing his Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Billy Donovan with him to New Zealand next week for his annual series of basketball camps.

Adams always entices a select few from the Thunder organisation to make the trip Down Under and help out with his coaching clinics which have become hugely popular since the Kiwi NBA star set them up as his way of giving back to the New Zealand hoops community.

Adams aware of his Khal Drogo look:

Sticking with the Adams front, he notes he was well aware of how his long haired mustached look was very similar to a certain  Game of Thrones character – Khal Drogo. In a previous Stuff article the big Kwi noted how this had worked to his advantage both with the ladies and getting into clubs:

"More from Thunderous IntentionsStealing one player from every Southwest Division team for the OKC ThunderShould the OKC Thunder chase after a disgruntled hometown hero?3 OKC Thunder players who can step up in Aleksej Pokusevski’s absenceAleksej Pokusevski sidelined approximately 6 weeks with ankle injuryDamian Lillard does not fit with the OKC ThunderAnd that Game of Thrones character Khal Drogo to whom he bears an uncanny resemblance?“Last summer when I was in Croatia everyone kept coming up to me and asking me for photos because they thought I was the guy from Game of Thrones. It kind of bummed me out a little bit actually because I thought for a minute they had Thunder fans in Croatia.“I was like, ‘Who in the bloody hell is Khal Drogo?’ But, actually, looking like him has helped me out at a lot clubs and stuff.”"

Westbrook tops odds makers list to repeat as MVP:

My cohort Tony Heim outlines the fact Westbrook is noted by online gambling site Bovada to repeat as MVP this season.

"This is a bit surprising considering the Thunder added a top-15 player in the league this offseason; Westbrook’s entire candidacy last year was based on the idea that he didn’t have a supporting cast. But when you look at the state of the league as a whole it starts to make sense."

That wraps up OKC Thunder In the News for August 18. Enjoy the start of the weekend and be sure to make OKC Thunder, In the News is part of your daily fix.
