Jerami Grant: Win the Dunk Contest

If there was one thing Thunder fan’s learned about Jerami Grant last year, it’s that he loves to dunk. When Grant got the ball, his first indication was usually, “how can I throw it down?“.  His dunk on Kevin Durant during the first matchup against Golden State gave fans a feeling of joy before being blown off the floor.

First of all,  the main issue for Grant is he has to get in the contest. With only four slots, that’s easier said than done. Secondly, the dunk contest is very much a popularity contest. If Grant goes up against guys like Aaron Gordon and Zach LaVine, it’s going to be difficult to win.

External factors shouldn’t discourage Grant from trying to enter. The NBA has seen it’s fair share of no-names take part in and even win the dunk contest. Last year’s winner, Glenn Robinson III, is hardly an established NBA player. Seeing Grant’s in-game dunk’s, the 23-year-old certainly has a few tricks up his sleeve. It’s just a matter of whether or not he has the chance to show it.
