Issuing Kobe challenges for key OKC Thunder players
Alex Abrines: Shoot 40% On Threes, Hit 150
If the Thunder are going to make a serious playoff run, they need Alex Abrines to take another step forward in year two. Abrines came into the NBA known for his sharp-shooting abilities. But, in his first month, he struggled to live up to that reputation. In his first 16 games of the season, Abrines went just 12-44 (27%) from downtown. However, as the season progressed, Abrines started to heat up. Hence, the rest of the season, Abrines went 82-203 (40). The Spaniard finished the season at 38 percent, and would easily have gotten to 40 had it not been for the slow start.
This upcoming season, Abrines needs to establish himself as one of the best knock down shooters in the league. He only averaged 15.5 minutes a game last season, and should be due for a major uptick. This will give him the opportunity to take more and make more three’s.
A goal of 150 threes is certainly doable. Most of all, the concern will be if he can do it at an efficient rate. Knowing Abrines’ confidence, he will certainly be up for the challenge.
