Hughes provides his insight on Indiana’s potential this season:

More from Thunderous Intentions

Indiana has actually had the fourth toughest schedule in the league up to this point, which has kind of convinced me they can sustain this. Oladipo has had to pull them from behind here and there (see the recent Bulls and Nuggets wins), but they have reliable starters that can have big games on any given night.

The bench has kind of been a mess, as coach Nate McMillan has mostly rolled with an eight-man rotation (Cory Joseph, Lance Stephenson and Domantas Sabonis being the three bench players) with sprinkles of senior citizen Damien Wilkins, rookie TJ Leaf and Joe Young.

Glenn Robinson III, coming off a career year, has been out since preseason but should be returning within the next month. He should have a positive impact either coming off the bench or starting in place of Bojan Bogdanovic.

This team still has some room to grow this season and currently sit as the fifth seed. The East’s middle-class is tightly packed, so things will sway back and forth throughout the year. But it wouldn’t be shocking if this group finished fifth or sixth in the East.

Finally who wins and by how much?

Hughes prediction:

I’ll take Indiana in this one, 115-109.
