Three Keys to the Game

1. Slowing down LA’s offense

Between Kyle Kuzma, Larry Nance Jr., Brandon Ingram and Jordan Clarkson, the Lakers have plenty of talent and athleticism to win games. With Kuzma averaging a team-high 16.7 points per game and Ingram coming in close behind with 16.1, disrupting their offensive rhythm will go a long way in expanding the win streak to three. Perimeter defense has been difficult for Oklahoma City without Andre Roberson, so communicating and playing smart defense will continue to be critical during this stretch.

Another interesting dynamic of the Lakers’ offense are the veterans on the team. Brook Lopez and Corey Brewer can give a different look to an otherwise young team. Given LA’s versatility on offense, it wouldn’t be surprising to see someone like Lopez come up with a double-double if the Thunder’s shots aren’t falling.

it’s going to take a team effort on the offensive end if the Thunder want a repeat performance of the last matchup. Westbrook is more than capable of winning the game by himself, but finding open and high-percentage looks that plays to strength of the group on the floor will raise the team’s shooting percentage. They are currently 19th best in the league at .452%.

LA’s defense isn’t exactly stifling, as the team is 14th in the league in defensive rating at 104.7. While Lopez is certainly a respectable defensive anchor, the Thunder should look to find the hot hand and exploit the Lakers’ average defense.

3. Bench depth

With Roberson out and role players such as Ferguson, Alex Abrines and Raymond Felton getting extra minutes on the floor, Billy Donovan continues to look for offensive production and defensive hustle around the perimeter.

Two weeks ago, Ferguson lit the world on fire in the fourth quarter, finishing with 24 points. His effort earned him a bit more responsibility in recent games – it’s time we see Abrines step up in a similar way. Felton brings plenty of experience and veteran savvy to the table, but the fresh legs of Ferguson and Abrinas would be a more ideal option to be the spark off the bench.
