LA Lakers:

A few short days ago the LA Lakers backtracked off their original position citing the fact they would not be chasing after superstar free agents this summer. Rather, the new narrative was LA intended to wait one more season and go full bore in the summer of 2019 instead.

Yeah right!

They must think the fans don’t know how this works. The minute a statement like that is posted (especially by a team known for leaking stories and news) everyone knows the true story is completely the opposite.

The thing is who would have thought the team with the player most coveted by the Lakers would be the one to free the Lakers shackles?

Originally the Lakers were getting nailed for their young roster as being a deterrent. But, the success of the team recently is changing perception. One look at teams like the Nuggets and Raptors who utilize their youthful depth to advantage will help in the sales pitch this summer. The fact, LA can keep those players while adding free agents is also a huge win.

While the Lakers have cleared the way to sign two max players, the reality is they still have to do it. Some pundits aren’t sure Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka will be able to nab the superstars they desire. And, it’s no secret the two LA covet are LeBron James and Paul George. OKC Thunder fans sure hope the star won’t be swayed. But, the fact LA  cleared the space is a win regardless.

Effect on OKC Thunder:

This one is rather obvious. Will Paul George be tempted by Magic and the Lakers to return home? Will the developing chemistry with Russell Westbrook take precedence? As I touched on earlier today this decision won’t be made until the offseason and there is no use focusing on it now while there are bigger fish to fry — like winning in the playoffs.
