Recently retired OKC Thunder vet Nick Collison documentary ‘Mr Thunder’ set to premier June 9 at deadCenter Film Festival.

‘Mr. Thunder’ a documentary about OKC Thunder Nick Collison is set to hit the big screen in a free showing on June 9. The documentary is advertised to celebrate the 15-year career of Collison and thank him for his loyalty to the franchise.

As a long-time fan favorite, it comes as no surprise Nick Collison will get a parting gift from the organization. OKC has seen several changes in recent years and been through many highs and lows. But Collison has always been a staple.

More from Thunderous Intentions

Although steadily seeing his production decrease with his playing time as he aged, Collison continued to do what he did best – lead. Both by example and on the sideline, Collison has been the true leader of the team since the move from Seattle in 2008.

Simply put, Collison’s game was to do the dirty work. It was his grit and toughness which endeared him to the fan base. Beyond his hustle on the court, Collison was always loyal to the organization and was a big reason why the Thunder saw early success.

In the days of the original OK3, the Thunder was pushing for a title with a young core. For a struggling franchise on the heels of a relocation, Collison was instrumental in developing the young core. Throughout the years players coming and going, playoff injuries and a adjusting to a new coach, Collison was always the leader.

Going through his career statistics, although nothing to be ashamed of, doesn’t give Collison’s career full justice. Mr. Thunder earned his nickname for his hustle on the court, his character off the court and his leadership in the locker room.

Mr. Thunder:

As per deadCenter Film Festival:

"“MR. THUNDER” celebrates the earnest and authentic career of the 15-year NBA veteran who became a popular and important face of the Thunder franchise over his 10-year tenure in Oklahoma City. Set over the final two weeks of his playing career, Collison reflects on his time in the NBA, the work and approach required to make it happen, and the relationships that made it special. Thunder cameras followed Collison over the two-week stretch which included his final seven regular season games."

In an era of basketball when drama and rumors haunt every organization, a veteran like Collison is priceless. OKC was lucky to have him for 15 years, and hopefully the documentary serves as a thank you.
