Salary Cap implications

There have been many murmurs around the league that players who will not receive max deals will find it difficult to cash in this NBA Free Agency period. Translation, if you are not a superstar this is the wrong summer to be a free agent, Alex Kennedy was the latest to touch on those murmurs.

More from Thunderous Intentions

With Kennedy’s report, this could greatly impact Smart who will be seeking a large raise this summer from the Celtics or elsewhere.

Other potential suitors

NBA Free Agency is strikingly similar to CBS reality show Big Brother, you should always expect the unexpected. It’s presumed Smart remains in Boston, but it’s far from a guarantee.

The Celtics are pursuing every option to make their squad better, though sometimes things are better left alone. One of those options is acquiring Spurs superstar, Kawhi Leonard. If Boston is preoccupied with the Spurs and Leonard Smart could quietly sign with another team.

Fit with the OKC Thunder

The Thunder already possess a starting backcourt consisting of two sub-30-percent three-point shooters in Westbrook and Roberson. I believe the Thunder would be best served to bypass Smart in NBA Free Agency.

Although, there is an old phrase beggars can’t be choosers, so if Smart’s value completely plummets OKC could benefit from taking a flyer on the former Oklahoma State product.
