OKC Thunder- Where the Buffalo Ball Podcast – Ep.05, the Thanksgiving episode
On this day we give thanks to the greatest league in the world. The OKC Thunder is rolling, Carmelo got fired, and the Warriors are being petulant and self destructive. This is a Thanksgiving treat you all should love.
It seems only customary that the season of giving would be punctuated by the NBA giving us a massive feast of content. Also, in a rare turn of events the OKC Thunder they are not the subject of the drama that seems to swirl around the western conference as of late.
So today, Ben and Trevor join you in thanks that this holiday season will not be marred by turmoil in the heartland. Instead, we get to sit back and watch an OKC team well on its way to establishing the second strongest foothold in the west.
You’ll notice in this pod our focus on the OKC Thunder is much more abbreviated than prior pods. This is because the Thunder are good, and almost at a state of equilibrium. Even though the insanely quick and meteoric turnaround has been a welcome sight, there are still many questions one can ask to rain on the parade.
Is this a product of their cake schedule? Did Paul George listen to our last podcast? Nerlens Noel really isn’t gonna figure it out, is he? I could keep going, but you might as well just listen to the first 20 minutes of this pod. If you keep listening we would appreciate it, because we go for a whole hour.

There was no way we were going into the holidays without talking KD and Dray. We spend plenty of time going back and forth over the always impending existential crisis that has landed so belligerently on the shores of that bay. We discuss the impact winning in Golden State hasn’t had on Durant, the consequences of coddling a temporary commodity at the expense of a load bearing wall, and what kind of soul will be left when Oracle finally closes its doors like Carmelo’s career.
The time has come. Carmelo Anthony is finally arriving at the end of a twilight he never got to experience. He was propped up by a brief boom that would only yield a wrecked Madison Square Garden. The last two years have been like a watching a man wander through the afterlife, making trouble, and all the while not knowing he is already dead. It’s sad but, it’s how these things go sometimes. Carmelo can be sure of one thing though, he will be enshrined.
Ben and Trevor wrap the show up talking about Butler’s move to Philly. The balance of power in the east is the fight of the year. For the first time in a long while the East is the home of the most competitive and balanced field in the league. Butler jumping into the fold only makes the chaos more palpable and the level pay that much better. Where the Sixers can go is still up for debate, but one thing is for certain, they definitely set themselves up to stick around.
Enjoy Thanksgiving, episode five of ‘Where the Buffalo Ball’ and please return next week for more musings from Ben and Trevor.
