OKC Thunder Family ties: OKC Blue sign Anthony Roberson – brother of Andre Roberson

The NBA is full of brothers, however, the OKC Thunder and their affiliate the OKC Blue have a special and somewhat uncommon brother duo.

During the week of Thanksgiving, the OKC Blue acquired three new players; Forwards, Duje Dukan, Amjyot Singh, and Guard Anthony Roberson. Among the names in the trio, one stands out, Roberson. Anthony is the younger brother of OKC Thunder Guard Andre Roberson.

Anthony and Andre are not the first brother duo to play in the NBA and G-League. When the league was still known as the D-League Seth Curry and Mychel Thompson played for the Santa Cruz Warriors. Seth is the sibling of former two-time NBA MVP Steph Curry and Mychel is the brother of four-time All-Star Klay Thompson.

Although NBA/G-League sibling rivalries are less common, there are at least seven brother duo’s currently playing in the NBA:

• Twins: Marcus and Markieef Morris
• Steph and Seth Curry
• Justin and Jrue Holiday
• Mason and Miles Plumlee
• Jerian and Jerami Grant

That is a lot of brotherly love, considering there is a maximum of 450 roster spots in the NBA. Therefore, the unique situation Anthony and Andre Roberson have positioned themselves in, is that much more special.

According to his University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) player page, Roberson led Wagner High School to a district championship and he also earned All-District honors. While in a junior college program (JUCO) he earned All-Region honors in 2014-15 after receiving honorable mention as a freshman the season before at Weatherford College.

Roberson led his team with 50 blocks as a sophomore and scored more than 20 points four times, including a season-high 30.

Roberson spent two seasons at Weatherford College in Texas, before joining Texas State where he played in 29 games, starting 12 in 2015-16. Roberson played 16.9 minutes per game at Texas State. In those minutes he averaged 4.7 points and 5.0 rebounds per game and recorded 17 blocks on the season. While, shooting 50 of 94, 53.2 percent from the floor.

Roberson transferred to UCO for his 2017-18 season. Unfortunately, his final collegiate season was cut short, due to a meniscus tear. Coincidently, Anthony’s injury occurred two days prior to older siblings Andre’s patellar injury.

During Patrick Patterson‘s latest Pat Presents event on November 4, 2018. Anthony showed up late with his brother Andre. However, Anthony could be seen wearing an Oklahoma City Blue sweatshirt. Since that night, I had been expecting the news any day that Anthony had joined the OKC Blue.

First game breakdown

In his first appearance for the Blue Roberson logged 11-minutes, scored two points, on 1 of 2 from the field for 50.0 percent shooting. Additionally, he pulled down three rebounds, and committed four fouls. This occurred in the Blue’s 123-115 loss to the Iowa Wolves on Friday, November 23 inside the Cox Convention Center.
