Deonte Burton makes case

With the departure of Alex Abrines, Oklahoma City now as an opening at the two-guard spot and many wondered who would be used to fill the void. Deonte Burton has been shuffled between OKC and OKC blue, showing glimpses of potential in his brief showings at the top level.

Tonight he got extended minutes and took full advantage.

Burton posted 19 points (7-9 from the field, 3-5 from three) and three blocks in 23 minutes of action.

The most impressive aspect of Burton’s game is his athleticism despite being listed at 6’4, 245 pounds. Thick set in nature, the rookie is a tweener – height of a guard with the size of a power forward. He can fill a number of roles and isn’t afraid of the moment, playing hard each minute he is on the court.

OKC has just 12 players on its roster and needs to fill out its roster by playoff time. The rookie has earned a contract with Oklahoma City and looks set to sign the first NBA contract of his career.
