The issue for the Grizzlies is they are in a position to tank to keep their pick as long as they finish eighth or lower. The problem with that scenario is if they don’t convey this season to Boston then next season the Celtics odds get even better as the Grizzlies will convey unless they finish lower than sixth, worse the pick becomes unprotected in 2021.

There are some solid draft picks this summer but as the Association nears the point where they’ll allow high school prospects into the draft the picks become exponentially more valuable. As the old saying goes ‘you can pay me now or pay me later’.
