The amount of fake tea being spilled regarding the OKC Thunder pick is reaching epic proportions. First, there was an assumption Presti made a draft night promise to Mattisse Thybulle. That shifted to leaks saying OKC was aggressively shopping their pick and assets to cut costs. Those two items don’t marry no matter how you slice it. And how many times in the history of the Thunder have you heard about Sam Presti letting ANYTHING leak?

So with news today from Steve Kyler saying Presti is on the phones inquiring about picks they’d like to nab (presumably or should I say hopefully Cameron Johnson as that prospect), it seems just as likely to be possible or complete nonsense.

So where does that leave the OKC Thunder?

Well, it’s a given the salary situation is a nightmare and it’s equally true their two superstars expect to win now. Most profoundly the OKC Thunder need to add shooting more than anything else .

Given those dynamics, I’m taking Thybulle off the table. For as much as Thybulle epitomizes  Presti’s prototype, there is an overriding factor at play. IF a 3-point shooter is on the board and Presti keeps the pick he has to select the sniper or risk getting burned in effigy for ignoring the most glaring issue on the team.

For those reasons (while still hopeful Presti can find a way to nab Cam Johnson) I’m picking the best shooter on the board…… Carsen Edwards. Yes, there was regression last season, but there are also murmurs of him heading to Portland if still on the board and he shot 40.6 percent the season prior.

Plus think of all the wonderful storyline tie-ins. OKC gets to steal a shooter from the team who took them out of the playoffs! This opens the door for Sam Presti to move Dennis Schroder and cut costs and I still think Edwards is one of those gems you simply can’t let slide.
