Miami Heat:
June 30: The situation in Philadelphia is up in the air as the Jimmy Butler agreement to join Miami Heat hinged on a sign and trade with three teams. Butler was set to get a max deal of 4-years, $142M.
Philly was set to get Josh Richardson and initially, the Mavericks were said to be the third team with Goran Dragic going to Dallas. Subsequent reports said the deal which hinged on this portion of the trade in order for the Heat to clear enough cap space switched to Kelly Olynyk and Derrick Jones Jr. Then tweets surfaced saying the deal was dead.
July 6: Heat will waive and stretch Ryan Anderson‘s $15.6M guaranteed salary over three seasons.
July 31: Heat waive Yante Maten

The Heat is still working on options to complete the Jimmy Butler sign and trade with Philadelphia, according to a league source. Out of respect for Goran Dragic, the Heat are working with him and his representatives to find a trade partner by July 6.

As for the barriers to finalizing the Butler deal this tweet explains it the best.

Along with a clear misunderstanding with the Mavericks:
Mavs source insists they always thought deal was going to send Kelly Olynyk and Derrick Jones Jr. to them and expected Heat to stretch Ryan Anderson to help make math work. Mavs asked for high-flying Jones as sweetener. No picks were discussed. Unclear if deal can survive.

And, of course, there are all the other parties involved if this trade falls through and the deals it would effect.
Hearing that Philadelphia is pushing Miami to find a resolution to this trade issue ASAP because they need to know if they have to re-work other things they have planned. Belief is trade will still get done with 3rd team brought in, but Philly wants it done and done soon.

July 1: The Hassan Whiteside saga comes to end as Miami trade him to the Blazers for Mo Harkless and Meyers Leonard. This has been on Pat Riley’s must-do list for what seems an eternity as the Heat wanted to feature Bam Adebayo and there were on-going issues between coach Spoelstra and Whiteside. Ironically the deal occurs at a convenient time as it will likely enable the Heat to clear space and or enable further trades so the club can push forward with the Jimmy Butler sign and trade deal.
July 1: Finally the deal to bring Jimmy Butler to the Heat is finalized. It required four teams a draft pick and five players in all.
