There are numerous players who weren’t drafted or may have been selected in the second round and won’t receive offers. Likewise, G-League players, Europeans, and other un-signed players need the G.M.’s attention as potential roster fits.
A perfect example of how a player in this category can be the difference to winning is the Raptors Fred VanVleet. In spite of registering success in four years at Wichita State, the point guard went undrafted in 2016. Yet, a productive stint in Vegas led to Toronto signing the point guard. He went on to excel in minutes both in the G-League (where the 905 crew won the G-League championship) and was a critical cog to the Raptors title run.
Bottom line, these diamonds exist its just a matter of finding them and then developing them.
