Best OKC Thunder Reserve:

B+. . SG/SF. Oklahoma City Thunder. DEONTE BURTON

This hat tip won’t be surprising to anyone who frequents Thunderous Intentions. I’m not sure if I’m Deonte Burton‘s biggest supporter but I’m pretty sure I’m the one with the keys to drive his bandwagon.

It’s unfortunate Billy Donovan doesn’t give Burton more minutes in games that matter but at least he got some run.

In 18 minutes he did all the things which punctuate why I’m keen on him getting consistent minutes. He led the reserve unit in scoring with 13 points second only to Danilo Gallinari for most points by the OKC Thunder in the match.

Burton shot 5 of 12 from the field and 50 percent from deep connecting on three 3-pointers. The wingman also grabbed three rebounds, dished an assist and although he was a negative in the box score (-5) in comparison Dennis Schroder was a minus 21.

I could go on (and on and on) but instead, check the site later today for more on Burton.

Best Opponent:

PG. Indiana Pacers. MALCOLM BROGDON. A.

More from Thunderous Intentions

I’m two for two tonight on preseason commentary. If you read the Indiana Pacers team preview this selection won’t be surprising.

In the victory for the Pacers the point guard didn’t produce the most points (20) that honor resided with Warren (23) or the most rebounds (Sabonis grabbed 16) however his fingerprints were all over the win.

Much like Chris Paul leads teams, Malcolm Brogdon exudes the same panache and his effect and respect of his court mates is palpable.

The other aspect of his game which resonates is his shooting efficiency. Although he instigates the offense his shots are always integrated without force and his effectiveness with his own shot makes it easier for him to function in this manner.

In the victory, Brogdon shot 8 of 16 from the field, 2 of 4 from deep and 2 of 2 from the line for a  50-50-100 split. And, this isn’t a-typical for the point guard. Last season he hit the rare territory of 50-40-90 with his 50.5 field goal percentage 42. 6 percent from deep and 92.8 free throw accuracy.

Once Victor Oladipo returns this pair is going to be must watch TV!
