Desmond Mason:

The small forward played his college ball at Oklahoma State University and was known in the NBA as a versatile scorer with major dunking chops.

To wit, in his second season with the Seattle SuperSonics Mason claimed the slam dunk title at the 2001 All-Star weekend in Washington.

Mason played in OKC on several occasions professionally as he was Chris Paul‘s New Orleans  Hornets teammate during the season they moved to OKC following Hurrican Katrina. The wing returned to the Thunder in the franchise’s first season.

In his 10 seasons as a pro, he averaged 12.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.6 assists.

What makes Mason an interesting selection for the Big3 tournament isn’t necessarily how he would play on the hardwood. The Waxahachie, Texas native is spending his retirement in the arts. He’s become an accomplished artist. In truth, painting was always Mason’s true passion and he put that on the pause during his professional basketball days.

The 42-year-old specializes in abstract expressionism and has put on several exhibits over the years often selling his work with proceeds going to charity.
