Australian artist Phoebe Williams re-imagined every team’s jersey including the OKC Thunder with a Disney spin

Less than a week from now the OKC Thunder and 21 teams will have descended upon Walt Disney World in Orlando. The teams will be housed in three different hotels and begin practice sessions at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in preparation for the resumption of the NBA season.

Every team will play three scrimmages and then eight-seeded games to determine the 16 playoff seeds. If the teams finishing in ninth can draw within four games of the eighth seed those teams will play one or two games to cement the final berth in the conference. Of note, the ninth-place squad must win back to back matches while the eighth-ranked team only has to win once.

With so much focus on the spike in positive COVID-19 tests in Florida as it has vaulted to the new epicenter, fans are wondering if that will contribute to stalling or stopping the restart. Fortunately for the Thunder, no players have tested positive as per the recent update.

Fortunately, fans were provided with a bit of levity via some re-structured logos incorporating Disney characters.

Artist Phoebe Williams who is living n Melbourne Australia is the mastermind behind the logos. These are not official jerseys and won’t be worn in the Disney bubble. Still, they’re fun and serve up debate on which ones are the best versus the least appealing.

I have to admit I’m a bit confused by the artist’s choice of character for the OKC Thunder particularly with so many natural Disney character tie-ins. But, before we dive into that argument let’s review which character (or movie) @pkairdesigns selected for each team. Of note, even the delete eight teams were represented.

OKC Thunder Disney inspired jersey:

  • Atlanta Hawks – Donald Duck.
  • Boston Celtics – Mickey Mouse as a Leprechaun
  • Brooklyn Nets – Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas
  • Charlotte Hornets – Dumbo
  • Chicago Bulls – Pumbaa the warthog from The Lion King
  • Cleveland Cavaliers – Hercules.
  • Dallas Mavericks – Bullseye the horse from Toy Story.
  • Denver Nuggets – Doc from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
  • Detroit Pistons Lightning McQueen from Cars.

  • Golden State Warrior – Castle outline from Sleeping Beauty.
  • Houston Rockets – Pizza Planet Rocket from Toy Story
  • Indiana Pacers – Adam the Beast from Beauty and the Beast
  • LA Clippers – Skull from Pirates of the Caribbean
  • Los Angeles Lakers – Outline of Mickey Mouse’s head
  • Memphis Grizzlies – Winnie the Pooh
  • Miami Heat – Ariel from The Little Mermaid.
  • Milwaukee Bucks – Bambi
  • Minnesota Timberwolves – Ed the hyena from The Lion King
  • New Orleans Pelicans – Nigel the Pelican (with Nemo and Dory in his mouth) from Finding Nemo
  • New York Knicks – Nemo from Finding Nemo. It may simply be the colors as Nemo is the orange clownfish, but this choice feels perfect. Aka Nemo gets lost and is led by the scatterbrained Dory. Insert any of the Knicks brain trust and owner James Dolan into this equation of the past several seasons and it’s spot on.
  • OKC Thunder  – Goofy —- other than Goofy wearing clothing in colors that match the logo this makes zero sense. Daily Thunder beat writer Brandon Rahbar had great suggestions. I do understand why she put Lightning McQueen with the Pistons since that was his racing team in the animated movie. However, Rahbar does make a valid point and as I noted some of these logos were seemingly based strictly on color coordination.
  • Orlando Magic – Mickey Mouse’s Wizard’s hat on a basketball from Fantasia.
  • Philadelphia 76ers – The Genie from Aladdin. Does anyone understand the tie-in?
  • Phoenix Suns – Tigger from Winnie the Pooh
  • Portland Trail Blazers – Dash from The Incredibles.
  • Sacramento Kings –  Rafiki holds a young Simba up from The Lion King
  • San Antonio Spurs – Cowboy boot (presumably Woody’s) from   Toy Story.
  • Toronto Raptors – Bit of an obvious choice with Rex from Toy Story, although the rendering makes Rex look a bit frumpy.
  • Utah Jazz – Pluto.

More from Thunder News

Another artist – – Slam Studios also reimagined the jerseys with a Disney spin. Many of the same characters or movies were used. Although some team jerseys were different like the Nets used 101 Dalmations, the 76ers were more of a superhero spin and the OKC Thunder jersey wasn’t shown in a large size so I’m not precisely sure what the spin was.

Again, you can go directly to their Instagram to view more of these jersey’s in solo images although again, the OKC Thunder didn’t get their own Instagram post.

None of these jerseys will be sold or available given the massive copyright and licensing fees that the artists would need to pay just to sell them.

Which ones were your favorites and what Disney character or movie would you align with the OKC Thunder?
