OKC Thunder big man Steven Adams opines on the bubble life and hunting unicorns during his time off in New Zealand

While the NBA is moving closer to resuming the season the OKC Thunder continues to practice in their effort to get ready for the restart. Every day the team practices and meets with the media virtually afterward.

Some of the best media sessions not surprisingly feature the Thunder starting center, Steven Adams. He celebrated a birthday in the bubble, turning 27 this week on Monday, July 20th. There wasn’t any pomp and circumstance surrounding his special day. In fact, he noted his birthday in his mind occurred on Sunday since he’s from New Zealand and the time difference would’ve found him celebrating on that day.

He noted he had no special plans other than perhaps playing online chess, grabbing a meal, and maybe hitting the pool.

More from Thunderous Intentions

Adams has delivered some of the best quotes in the two weeks since the team arrived in Orlando. Some of those included him stating the bubble wasn’t like Syria and opening a bit of a can of worms by saying he expects there will be more technicals called since refs will hear everything they say without fans droning out the talking on the court.

Adams sat down for an individual interview with Oklahoma News 9 Sports Director Dean Blevins and offered up other gems.

Regarding the food, the Big Kiwi said the reason the food probably doesn’t look appealing because everything has to be individually packaged. Instead of putting all the food on one plate the chicken, rice and vegetables for example would each be in their own containers.

Asked about Andre Roberson and whether he’ll play Adams kept it simple stating if he (Dre) feels good he’ll be on the court.

The big man likes to play golf and got in some time on the links in Disney winning money in a game against Danilo Gallinari, Chris Paul, and Mike Muscala.

Told former teammate Kendrick Perkins had extolled on Adams being the toughest player in the NBA. Blevins told him that Perk said he’s got like 20 brothers and sisters the same size and all they do in offseason in New Zealand is wrestle and go hunting hogs barefoot.

Adams said it’s all true – 100 percent — except he hunts unicorns using magical spells. For the record, Adams is the youngest of 18 siblings.
