Why OKC should hold onto Steven Adams for the final year of his contract

As Oklahoma City prepares to rebuild acquiring young talent and draft capital is important, but so is fielding a competitive team that you won’t be embarrassed by. Not that OKC needs to “be competitive” in the sense that they should be a playoff team. But at the least, be a team fans want to watch.

Keeping Steven Adams around allows you to ensure that you have a good rebounder and a veteran paint presence. Something that you might not be able to get out of one or two young players, that the OKC Thunder acquires this off-season.

Steven Adams has always been a player who brings more to the game than the stat sheet shows. That value will be extremely valuable to a rebuilding Thunder squad. Having a consistent presence of effort, and doing whatever the team needs will show the young guys how they should play in OKC.

Andre Roberson’s contract expired at the end of this past season, and if Roberson is not brought back next season. Steven Adams would be the only player left from Oklahoma City’s last Western Conference Finals appearance. Roster turnover has predicated the past few seasons and is expected to continue so Thunder fans would likely appreciate a familiar face remaining.

Thunder fan’s love of Steven Adams goes beyond the confines of the basketball court. Adams is an interesting character. He’s got a great accent, some very memorable quotes, and hilarious quips. His unique fashion sense, carefree attitude, and involvement in the community have made him beloved among all Thunder fans.
