OKC brings on a potential core rotation piece, Clippers get more shooters

Like we said, the Los Angeles Clippers essentially have zero draft assets worth acquiring in a hypothetical trade scenario. However, what they do have are a few young players in tow that, though they may have shown potential, do not give the team as good a chance of winning a championship that someone like George Hill does.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, and, with this, perhaps the idea of swapping the 34-year-old point guard with a wing 10 years younger isn’t as far-fetched as one may have previously thought.

Now, while Luke Kennard‘s 2020-21 per-game averages of eight points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.8 assists may not blow anyone away, let’s not forget this is the same guy who was the 12th overall pick back in 2017 and, just last season, had a breakout campaign where he posted 15.8 points, 4.1 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game on 40 percent shooting from deep.

With even better shooting clips this season (49 percent shooting from the field and 48 percent shooting from deep) coupled with his reduction in minutes by about 13 per game, it’s quite obvious that these “lesser” numbers are indicative of his diminished usage, not any sort of regression.

Adding the 24-year-old scorer to this young OKC Thunder team would allow them to improve upon their 23rd ranked 3-point shooting and 26th ranked points-per-game averages.

In turn, the Thunder also manage to bring on a 2024 second-round pick and Lou Williams’ expiring contract in exchange for, again, Hill and the likes of Mike Muscala, both of whom would easily manage to replace the scoring production that has been provided by Kennard.
