Roby signed a multi-year deal with the Dallas Mavericks prior to being traded. All four years, including the non-guaranteed third year and the team option in the fourth year, are worth $6.7 million. That is a really nice contract for a player who is developing all the time and promises to be a key piece for the future.
This season’s deal was only worth $1.5 million and to get the production they were able to get out of Roby it was one of the best deals in the entire league.
Season grades: B
Roby played so well for the season, there could have been a case made for him to start. At the time it was alongside Al Horford as the two of them formed a pretty good pairing in the frontcourt. Darius Bazley would have started at the wing position giving the Thunder positionless basketball at its finest.
Roby would end up starting 34 of a possible 61 games and played his heart out every minute he was on the court. He did what you want every young player to do in the league, he developed and learned in a manner that is going to help the team in the future.
