It took until early February for Williams to work into some regular rotation minutes. As mentioned earlier, that was when Pokusevski went to the G-League for the bubble. It did not take Williams long to announce himself as a rotation piece, scoring 24 points in a one-point loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Williams then had seven of the next eight games where he scored in double figures once. In four of those games, he did not score more than four points. As he worked into the rotation and playing more this variance occurred with less regularity.
He would have a string of games where he would score in double digits, then another string where he would score six points or less. Williams was more consistent with his rebounding as he worked on his chemistry with his teammates. As a team, the Thunder were inconsistent so that did not help.
Williams is now coming into his fourth NBA season and his second with the Thunder. He has two more years left on his deal to carve out his role within the structure of this rebuilding team. Hitting closer to his averages every night will help Williams achieve this.
