OKC Thunder guard set to release “chase the drip” pack

Last year, Converse announced the expansion of its burgeoning basketball roster with the addition of OKC Thunder guard, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. An electric player, known for his crafty play on the court, and his expressive style off the court, Shai has since been given creative authority to inform the design language on some of Converse’s key silhouettes. During the process, he channeled his inner designer to conceive special iterations of the Pro Leather Ox and Chuck 70 Hi.  And just like Shai’s game, both silhouettes get better with time.

The Chase the Drip x SGA Chuck 70 Hi and Pro Leather Ox will be available in a limited global release beginning this Friday, October 1, in-store and online at Foot Locker, Champs Sports, and Footaction, and on Converse.com.

The Chase the Drip x SGA Chuck 70 Hi features a white tear-away denim upper that distresses over time to reveal a blue tie-dye graphic underneath. Shai’s passion for thrifting continues to inspire the shoe, as a hacked midsole welcomes additional pieces of vulcanized tape on each heel. The finishing flourishes include white Chuck patches on each medial side, as well as a frayed edge on the collar and tongue.

The Chase the Drip x SGA Pro Leather Ox embraces a monochromatic aesthetic. Dipped in a bold University Blue, SGA’s initials replace the classic Pro Leather’s signature stamp on each lateral side. Subtle hints of white are also incorporated into the design, applied to the heel logo, sock liner, and Star Chevron branding on each lateral and medial side.

“You either ride the wave or create it, and Converse has given me the creative freedom to truly influence the look and feel of these Chuck 70 Hi and Pro Leather Ox Chase the Drip kicks. I’m a strong believer in letting your individual style shine. There are personal touches throughout, and the tear-away denim upper on the Chuck 70 Hi eventually reveals a graphic, so the design changes over time, much like my style. Having these drop at Foot Locker, Champs Sports, and Footaction, brands at the heart of youth and sneaker culture is major. I’m proud of this collaboration and am looking forward to seeing it out on the streets.” said OKC Thunder face of the franchise, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
