First Look: OKC Thunder light up Paycom Center for the first time
By Rylan Stiles
The OKC Thunder are set to open up the 2021-22 NBA season with their first preseason game of the four-game slate. They will welcome the Charlotte Hornets to Oklahoma City on Monday evening as an official start to the season.
The Oklahoma City Thunder will allow fans back in the arena for the first time since March 11th, 2020 after going through an entire pandemic season of no fans inside the Chesapeake Energy Arena. The 2020-21 NBA Season ends up being the final season with that moniker on the side of the arena.
As you walk around downtown Bricktown or navigate your way to the game tomorrow, you will notice new signage crowning the stadium as the “Paycom Center”. Those signs will be on top, on the side, and the court of the arena from now on.
First look at the OKC Thunder lights at the Paycom Center
It all starts tomorrow as the OKC Thunder tip-off their preseason, and fans will get their first look at the renovated arena. Tonight at dusk, the arena will publicly light up in their new blue, green, and bright color scheme which is now a staple of downtown life in Bricktown.
The Oklahoma City Thunder and Paycom did not spare any expenses on this incredible light show, it looks like something from the future with enough power to light up the entire city. The Paycom Center now features what is described as “one of the best and brightest” light packages in the National Basketball Association.
With multiple packages and the best equipment, it will be interesting to see what the organization comes up with. Could we see special Christmas-themed lights in December?
What do you think of the new light show at the Paycom Center?
