OKC Thunder: three bold predictions for 2021-22 season
By Rylan Stiles
OKC Thunder guard Josh Giddey will become the youngest player to log a triple-double in NBA History
This season the Oklahoma City Thunder fanbase will be zeroed in on sixth overall pick Josh Giddey as he tries to submit his spot as a building block blue-chipper next to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Giddey had a glorious preseason that left OKC Thunder fans salivating and wanting more and more highlights.
During the four-game preseason slate, Josh Giddey turned 19 years old, marking him down as the second-youngest player in the NBA only ahead of San Antonio Spurs guard Josh Primo who is still an 18 year old until Christmas Eve.
The Thunder will play 60-games before their rookie guard turns the same age as LaMelo Ball was when he became the youngest player to log a triple-double in NBA history. That deadline is February 27th, 2022.
Giddey plays a style that is conducive to triple-doubles, even falling just shy of his first one during the preseason slate against the Denver Nuggets. He is an elite rebounder for his position, one of the best passers in the NBA from day one, and had a surprising knack for scoring throughout the preseason.
Mark Daigneault has made it clear Josh Giddey will have no shortage of playing time, including pushing him into the starting group from day one as a rookie. Giddey will have the chances and the ability to break this record held by LaMelo Ball who played in a shorter season and did not start right out of the gate.
