The Oklahoma City Thunder did not get to see Josh Giddey play much during the 2021 NBA Summer League session, as Giddey rolled his ankle within the first few plays a year ago. Now, after turning in four triple-doubles in his rookie season and collecting every Western Conference Rookie of the Year award he was eligible for, Josh Giddey is back on Summer Leauge hardwood and it is going about how you expect.

Chet Holmgren had a stellar debut in game one of the Salt Lake City Summer League session which stole the headlines from Josh Giddey’s electric rim finishing, and Jalen Williams scoring. Now, it is all about Giddey as the second-year point guard logged a triple-double to the tune of 14 points, ten rebounds, and ten assists to go along with two steals and a block while shooting 46 percent from the floor.

The Oklahoma City Thunder saw second-year point guard Josh Giddey light up Salt Lake City Summer League with a triple-double en route to a win over the Memphis Grizzlies

The Oklahoma City Thunder rolled Josh Giddey out there for Summer League to provide the youngsters with playmaking in an attempt to make their transition into an NBA environment seamless. When you look around the 16-man Summer League roster, it is tough to find a true facilitator who is not a rookie in their own right.

Josh Giddey is not at summer league for his gain, it is to help the rest of the roster as a leader.

Chet Holmgren struggled offensively, and as you saw in highlight packages on Social Media, Kenny Lofton who stands 6’6 and weighs 280 pounds, powered over Holmgren down low. However, that should be welcomed by OKC.

If a team is willing to go inside to a 280-pound bowling ball every time and surrender the chance to make threes and force a 280-pounder to defend Holmgren on the perimeter I am all for it. OKC still outscored Memphis in the paint while making more triples than the Grizzlies as well in the win.
