Six score in double-figures as OKC Thunder beat Warriors
By Rylan Stiles
The Oklahoma City Thunder march on during the 2022 NBA Summer League, playing their 7th game of the Summer. They rattled off three games in as many days in the Salt Lake City circuit, before playing four games in the last week at Vegas on the grand stage with every team in attendance. The OKC Thunder just wrapped up their second-to-last game of the Summer against the Golden State Warriors, and despite earning another win, they have been eliminated from NBA Summer League championship contention.
The NBA Summer League Championship will be decided on Sunday in a game between the New York Knicks and Portland Trail Blazers. The final game for the OKC Thunder will take place on Sunday, July 17th at 5 p.m. central time against the New Orleans Pelicans. The Oklahoma City Thunder wrapped up pool-play with a 3-1 record, which is tied for the best record in Vegas, with seven other squads, but the point differential tie-breaker favors the Blazers and Knicks.
The OKC Thunder have a 5-2 record overall this summer, with a game to go. They saw big names such as Chet Holmgren, Josh Giddey, Tre Mann, Ousmane Dieng, Aleksej Pokusevski, and Aaron Wiggins sit out against the Warriors.
OKC Thunder second-year players Vit Krejci and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl help lift the team past the Golden State Warriors as Jaylin Williams turns in his first quality Summer League game
The Oklahoma City Thunder captured a 90-82 win over the Summer League Warriors, and that was in large part due to second-year players lifting the squad.
Vit Krejci, who is experiencing his first healthy offseason since making the jump to the NBA, finds himself on the roster bubble as we head toward October’s training camp and preseason period. Krejci has looked impressive in Summer League, improving upon all that OKC has asked him to, namely his defensive strides.
In this game, Vit Krejci scored ten points, dished out five assists, and hauled in seven rebounds while earning a steal and a block on the defensive end.
Jeremiah Robinson-Earl is on solid footing heading into training camp, and many expect the second-year big man to battle for the 5th starting spot for Mark Daigneault’s squad come October. Robinson-Earl scored 15 points while pulling down 14 rebounds, and handing out a pair of assists. The Kansas City native shot 63 percent from the floor in this contest.
Rookie Arkansas big man Jaylin Williams has not been off to a great start in Vegas, which is not a huge deal given that a year ago we saw Tre Mann struggle in Vegas before a stellar rookie year that had Thunder fans in love with his potential. Williams scored nine points, grabbed five rebounds, and dished out four assists showing off his playmaking ability.
