Games lost due to injury should factor – but it doesn’t at least for the starters

My other issue with how the voting works is how many of the players who’ll start this season have missed at least a quarter of the season.

I’m not throwing shade at Kevin Durant or Giannis Antetokounmpo because they would both rather play all 82 games. They’re out or missed games because of legitimate injuries.

But, consider the following

  • Curry missed 15 games (almost a third of the 48 Warriors games this season)
  • Mitchell missed 10, is currently sidelined, and could be out a while given it’s his groin and those injuries need extended rest.
  • Irving missed 11 games – and the reason why he was out the majority of those games was not the stuff role models are made of.
  • And the worst of the mix? …

Zion Williamson has missed 20 games and per the update this week won’t be evaluated for another two weeks which means he’ll have missed more than 50 percent of the Pelicans’ games by the time he returns.

Granted Zion’s presence wouldn’t impact Shai because SGA is a backcourt player but it does speak to the issues with the voting method.

With only 12 spots open in each Conference shouldn’t it be about sending the best players from that given season along with a few (and I mean a couple) of the league’s superstars?

This popularity contest in my humble opinion is stopping the growth of the game. Players like SGA should be rewarded for their breakthrough seasons.
